Sheriff Takes Inmate Golfing

This sounds like a movie plot. The kind of movie plot where you roll your eyes and say, “Oh yeah right.”

According to the Los Angeles Times, former pro golfer-turned-jewel-thief-turned-prisoner Frank Castillo was moved from Men’s Central Jail in Downtown LA to a cushy little jail on the resort island of Catalina, off the Los Angeles coast.

Next thing he knows, Sheriff’s Captain Jeff Donahue is allegedly escorting him to a lovely golf course where Donahue asked Carrillo for a golf lesson. Carrillo was even reportedly allowed to change into pants and a polo shirt.

Of course he was. You know you need a collared shirt to play golf, right? You can’t show up in an orange DOC jumpsuit…

The best part of the story is what Castillo says about Donahue, whom he believes didn’t really do anything wrong:

“He kind of has this swing that’s old school and risky, but he hits it every time,” Carrillo said in a phone interview. “I would probably say he’s a 14 or 15 handicap. Not too bad.”

Well, there you go. Of course the sheriff is now under investigation for having had an inappropriate relationship with an inmate.

What do you think? Is Capt. Donahue’s free golf lesson reason enough to fire him? Do yo consider receiving a golf lesson an “inappropriate relationship”?
